Mountain Climbing in Your Music Ministry

Are you standing at the foot of a mountain in your music ministry? Are you currently facing a huge obstacle in your life that seems impassable? Does the shadow of the mountain have you in the dark and you don’t know what to do? You want to run in the other direction but to move forward, you must face the mountain.

Mountains come in many forms: financial problems, health problems, job changes or loss of employment, relationship issues, conflicts within your church, a growing lack of opportunity and so on. Having to face any of these issues can make you want to retreat to the comfort of level ground!

When you stand at the foot of a mountain in your life, it can affect your ministry. A musician friend of mine is facing some serious health issues and had to lay her music ministry down at the foot of the cross. Another friend has job issues that are demanding more time with much less money and the bills are stacking up. And another musician friend is trying to move on with a broken heart. I could bear testimony to obstacles that I have stood before over the years. Some God chose to remove and others He chose to lead me over. In every case God has a plan and He was and is sovereignly working.

I’m sure you could also bear testimony to mountains you’ve faced and are facing. Truth is, we’re all going to face them! So let’s locate some “mountain climbing gear” and put it to use. The truth of God’s Word is our “gear” and the Lord Himself is our constant companion. As a believer, if you’re standing at the foot of a mountain then the Lord is standing there beside you. You are not alone. Hebrews 13:5 says, “…I will never leave you or forsake you.” (ESV) Yes, He is right there with you! He may choose to crush the mountain or He may choose to hold your hand and lead you over it. Either way, He will provide you with more than enough of Himself and He will get you through this.

If He calls you to follow Him over the mountain then He will strengthen you to do just that. Philippians 4:13 declares, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (ESV) That sounds like an experienced mountain climber in the faith! Psalm 18:33 says, “He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.” (ESV) What a testimony of someone who’s done some climbing!

So dear fellow musician, are you standing at the foot of a mountain? Remember, the Lord is there beside you. He knows what’s best – to move the mountain or lead you over it. So take hold of your “mountain climbing gear” – God’s Word, follow the Lord’s direction and by faith do some mountain climbing!
