God’s Beautiful Gift

Take a moment to imagine a beautifully wrapped gift with a large perfect bow on top. Now imagine that this gift has been given to you to open and enjoy. Well, music is that beautiful gift, and it’s been given straight from God Himself. Romans 11:36 says, “For from him and through him and for him are all things.” (ESV). Colossians 1 tells us that all things were created by Him and for Him. Music is one of those wonderful things that God created. Now as a minister of music, a singer in the service of Jesus Christ our Lord, you have been given a special gift.

If we apply the word “music” to Romans 11:36, it would read like this — music is from Him, music is through Him, and music is for Him. In other words, music comes from God. Through Him, we are empowered to use that music to minister to others and for Him we serve for His honor and glory. Isn’t it so cool how God’s Word gives purpose to all that we do?

Yes, music is a gift. Music calms. Music comforts. Music speaks to the heart when words fail. Music leads in worship and prepares hearts to receive God’s Word. Music crosses over from generation to generation. Music was created by God for His glory.

What should our response be to this wonderful gift we have received? Psalm 104:33 says, “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.” Now there’s a purpose statement!

The Creator of music gave each of us a beautiful gift by putting music inside of us. As musicians, each of us has been given this gift to use for His honor and glory. It’s as if He handed you a beautifully wrapped box with a big bow on top. And He wants you to open it and enjoy it.

Make the most of the opportunities you have to use that gift to bring honor to the Lord. Sing, sing, sing to the Lord! Remember, this beautiful gift has been given to you from God Himself.
