We have talked before about singing a song that proclaims your personal testimony or testifies to a truth God is teaching you. There’s no better way to minister through music and sing with power and conviction than to sing a song that’s personal to you – a song that declares what God has done in your life.
Here’s a song to consider that does just that. Do you know these lyrics? “Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone, because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives.” The old southern gospel class Because He Lives was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither. It’s been recorded by various artists and continues to be a sung as a personal testimony to God’s transforming power in our lives – Because He Lives!
This song is a classic standard for Easter. And you can find a track with a variety of keys and background vocal options to fit any voice and preference.
I had a friend that is now with the Lord who loved this song. It so ministered to his heart! He pulled me aside one Sunday and asked if we could sing it in church. One of his last times at church we sang it for him. It blessed him but it also truly blessed the younger ones on the worship team who had never heard this song before. Timeless!
Now, you may love the words to this old classic but you may be looking for something a little more current for Easter. Well have you heard this song? Because He Lives (Amen) by Matt Maher is a current version of the great old southern gospel classic. And the well known lyrics are recognizable right in the middle of the song: “Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because He lives every fear is gone, I know He holds my life, my future in His hands Amen! Amen! I’m alive, I’m alive because He lives!“
Now that is a song that proclaims a personal testimony – what a great song to sing! The worship team that I work with is currently learning this version. You can do it as a solo or you can involve a group with solos on the verses and full harmony on the chorus.
The truth of these lyrics is stated in Hebrews 7:25 which says, “Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.“(ESV) And Jesus says in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” (ESV) So as you look for a song to sing this Easter, consider singing Because He Lives, the old classic or a current version, and proclaim through song what God has done for you – because He lives!
