Singing Suggestions for Easter Sunrise

As Easter quickly approaches, there’s one service that we musicians approach with a bit of fear and trembling – the Easter Sunrise Service.

Now don’t misunderstand me, the Easter Sunrise Service is an incredibly special worship service. I love gathering with other believers, especially on Easter Sunday, and lifting our voices as one in worship of our Savior.

But singing solos at 6:30 am can be a bit scary! Most musicians don’t feel that they are vocally at their best early in the morning. In fact, most of the singers I know say they are vocally stronger much later in the day.

Here are some song suggestions if you will be singing at sunrise this Easter. The songs I have chosen have key options. So if you head for church before dawn on Easter morning and your voice just isn’t as “awake” as it needs to be, you can quickly choose to do the low key option of your song instead of the higher key you were planning to sing. With those key options, a good night’s sleep and a strong cup of coffee, you’ll do great!

I have two suggestions by Sandi Patty: Via Dolorosa and Who Will Call Him King Of Kings by Sandi Patty – Don’t let the name Sandi Patty scare you away. With low medium and high key options almost any voice can sing either of these songs.

He Loved Me With A Cross by Larnelle Harris – Same as with Sandi Patty, don’t be afraid of a Larnelle track with key options.

I Believe In A Hill Called Mount Calvary by The Gaither Vocal Band – this can be done as a trio and take the fear out of that dreaded early morning solo.

Above All by Michael W Smith – great solo for you guys

The Tomb Is Empty by Karen Wheaton – vocal options

When I Survey The Wondrous Cross by Selah – Another trio with key options

Just For Me by Donnie McClurkin – this gospel song also has key options

Arise My Love by NewSong – Get a group together and do this with the full harmonies! Powerful song!

Worthy Is The Lamb by Hillsong – key and background vocal options

Then Came The Morning by Gaither Homecoming – Another group song with key options

Why by Nichole Nordeman – key options and powerful words

No Greater Love by Rachel Lampa – another powerful song with key options

And here are several Kari Jobe favorites with key options: Revelation SongForever & O The Blood by Kari Jobe

Check out these songs. Easter Sunday is typically a time when everyone finds a church service to go to. As musicians, we have the wonderful opportunity to proclaim the Truth of the Gospel through song. So, choose your song and get prepared to be singing at sunrise. We would love to hear which song you choose to sing.
