Singing Scripture

Do you have a life verse or a particular Scripture verse that you are claiming right now? I definitely have had special verses for particular seasons of life. A few years ago the Lord put a verse on my mind that I would describe as my “life verse”. How about you? If so, why not sing about it?

There are so many songs available with lyrics that are Scripture put to music. There are others that use a phrase from Scripture or a truth from God’s Word. If you start to listen to some of the tracks available, you won’t have to listen very long to hear Scripture in the music.

Here are a few song suggestions I found that are Scripture put to music.

Always by Kristian Stanfill
Psalm 121:1-2 – “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (ESV)

You Are My Hiding Place by Selah
Psalm 119:114 – “You are my hiding place and my shield. I hope in your word.” (ESV)

His Eye Is On The Sparrow by Selah – and here is a gospel version by Kirk Franklin
Matthew 10:29-30 – “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (ESV)

He’s Always Been Faithful (Great Is Thy Faithfulness) by Sarah Groves
Lamentations 3:22-23 – “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (ESV)

Greater by MercyMe
1 John 4:4 – “…for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (ESV)

He’s Able by Detrick Haddon and Darwin Hobbs
Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” (ESV)

He Called My Name by Michael Combs

Finish Well by Karen Peck and New River
Philippians 3:13-14 – “…forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (ESV)

Here are two more suggestions that would be great selections for Easter…

Worthy Is The Lamb by Hillsong
Revelation 5:12 – “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing” (ESV)

Redeemer by Nicole C. Mullen
Job 19:25 – “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” (ESV)

There are a few songs to get you started. Believe me, I didn’t scratch the surface. Check them out and sing some Scripture put to music.
