Music for VBS

The school year has come to an end and summer break has begun. If you’re in children’s ministry, you know that summer break means Vacation Bible School is coming up.

For musicians, Vacation Bible School means learning lots of “kids’ songs” to lead during assembly time.

Did I hear a sigh?

Now before you check out and stop reading I want to remind you of a truth from God’s Word. Jesus made it very clear how He felt about ministering to children. Mark 10: 13-16 says, “And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.” (ESV)

Wow! The Son of God, King of kings and Lord of lords welcomes children into His presence! And we need to follow His example.

So, back to learning music for the kids for VBS. If you haven’t been asked to lead the music I encourage you to volunteer. Most children’s ministry directors are in desperate need of more volunteers, especially for VBS. If you have already been asked to help with the music then I have some song suggestions for you.

Some of these songs are “kids’ songs” and some are just great songs that kids will enjoy singing. Most have various key options and background options to fit any voice.
