This is a busy season for church musicians with so many songs to learn for special Easter services! Perhaps you have been rehearsing for weeks, getting that music ready for Easter weekend. But maybe you haven’t even chosen a song to sing yet!
I understand. I always seem to find myself looking for songs at the last minute too. Well, if you still need to choose a song I’m going to help you out and do the work for you.
I have five songs to consider that can be learned at the last minute. Any of these is a great choice. Here they are:
This Is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham
has multiple key options and background vocal options to fit any voice. The style of this song may seem like an unlikely choice but the lyrics to this song are perfect for an Easter service. And the melody is an easy one to follow. The chorus sings “This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, that You would take my place, that You would bear my cross. You lay down Your life that I would be set free. Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me.”

Jesus Loves Me by Chris Tomlin
also has multiple key options and background vocal options. The lyrics are a salvation story. The second verse sings, “He holds the stars and He holds my heart with healing hands that bear the scars. The rugged cross where He died for me – My only hope, my everything” The chorus is a simple humble statement- Jesus, He loves me, He loves me, He is for me, Jesus how can it be, He loves me, He is for me.” I am working with a group of kids right now that are singing the chorus of this song for Easter. Learn this song and get a few kids to join you on the chorus. It is such sweetness and power to have children sing these simple words!

Jesus, Only Jesus by Philips, Craig and Dean
has multiple key options. The song itself is a little more difficult but if you’re looking for a trio option give this one a try. It’s recorded as a men’s trio but I’ve done it with a group of two guys and three girls. These are powerful words and the harmonies are gorgeous!

has several key options. Here’s a simpler choice for a trio with beautiful harmonies and lyrics.

has multiple key options to suit any voice. This is an older song. It has a simple melody to sing and is a perfect last minute solo. The track is beautiful and cuts straight to the heart with truth!
