Easter Song Suggestions for Children

Are any of you musicians out there parents of small children? Are any of you grandparents of small children? Are you involved in the music ministry at a church that is filled with families that have small children? If you answered yes to any of those questions then take a look at this Scripture – “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children.” (Deuteronomy 4:9 ESV)

The Israelites had seen God do miraculous things. They had experienced Him firsthand. And God wanted them to pass along to their children and their grandchildren all that they had seen and learned from Him. We have that same responsibility today – passing the Truth of God’s Word onto our children, our grandchildren and even the little ones that are in our “church family.”

We have the Bible. We know the Truth of God’s Word. So why is it when it comes to Easter we teach our children that an Easter bunny is going to come visit them and leave baskets of candy and gifts? Easter is Jesus! And we need to make the most of teaching our children and grandchildren the Truth of what Easter represents.

One way to teach them is to get the kids involved in the Easter services at your church. Let them be a part of the celebration! Pull together a children’s choir if there’s not one already established. As you teach them the songs, talk through the lyrics and use it as a time to teach.

I would like to suggest a few songs that you could pull from to get started. Only a couple of these songs are considered “kids songs.” But they’ve been used for kids and worked great – even the traditional hymn suggestions!

When I Survey The Wondrous Cross by Various Artists has several key options

There Is A Redeemer by Songs 4 Worship – a Keith Green song that is timeless

Jesus Paid It All by Kristian Stanfill has a variety of key options

At The Cross by Hillsong has a variety of key options

Every Praise by Hezekiah Walker – One of my favorites – add in a little choreography and you will have a hit with the kids!

What A Savior by Laura Story -another of my favorites!

My Redeemer Lives by Hillsong -an upbeat option that kids will love!

If you have younger children these two options would be good. Even the babies can sing Jesus Loves Me.

Redeemer by Daywind Kidz

Jesus Loves Me by Daywind Kidz

I encourage you to jump in and get the kids involved this Easter! If you can’t pull together a children’s choir then gather your own children or grandchildren around. Teach them the truth of Easter and then let them sing about it!
