Easter Song Review – The Great Day

If you haven’t found an Easter song to sing yet, I have an unlikely Easter song to bring to your attention – The Great Day by Michael W. Smith and Darlene Zschech. It’s a powerful duet that’s worth consideration.

The lyrics of the first verse of the song take us from the Garden of Eden where sin entered the world, to Bethlehem where God sent hope through His Son, Jesus, to the cross where His Hands were “bleeding grace,” to the second coming of Jesus where we will see His face. That’s quite a journey in a few short lines. But that is His Story of salvation and it’s our story.

The chorus sings, “One day Love will wear the crown, One day Love will set us free, Hands up high and faces down, Angels teaching us to sing, He will be King, Oh He will be King.” Wow what powerful encouraging lyrics. Isn’t that what we celebrate at Easter?

We celebrate that we serve a risen Savior. We celebrate that Jesus conquered sin and death through His crucifixion and His resurrection. We celebrate what we read in Philippians 2:6-11 which says,

Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (ESV)

Oh on that Great Day!

Now, as you search for a last minute Easter song, consider this unlikely one. What a powerful blessed message to sing on Easter! We celebrate that on that Great Day we will be with Jesus, in His glorious Presence. So let’s sing about it.
