Easter is about Worship

You’ve been preparing for Easter for months. Now it’s here. By now you are probably as prepared as you can be for the songs you will sing. As you make your way into Easter weekend I want to give you a few words of encouragement.

Make this weekend a weekend of worship. When you sing, let go and worship! There’s a danger, after so many rehearsals, to make the Easter service a production – a performance. Fight against that temptation. Engage your heart and your mind and lift your voice in worship of your Savior.

Recently, I was discussing with a dear friend all that I still had to do to get music ready for Easter. Besides planning the music for the worship team I work with, I was putting together plans for the children to participate in the Easter service. This wise friend gently reminded me to keep it simple and focused on worship. Boy did I need that reminder! I was letting my plans become a production in my mind and that was becoming the focus instead of worship.

As musicians in the Lord’s service, let’s keep each other accountable and even though we will be gathering in different churches all over the world, let’s lift our voices and worship together in Spirit and Truth.

There’s a beautiful song titled Jesus, Only Jesus by Philips, Craig and Dean that I love so much! The lyrics to the chorus are “Who can command the highest praise? Who has the name above all names? You stand alone, I stand amazed. Jesus, only Jesus.” Let’s keep that phrase “Jesus, Only Jesus” in our minds as we go through Easter weekend. Let’s keep our celebration centered on “Jesus, only Jesus.”

Easter is not about bunnies, baskets and chocolate. Easter is about worshipping our Savior, Jesus, remembering His sacrificial death on the cross and celebrating His resurrection. Let’s embrace the season with Truth. I encourage you to center your family celebration in the Truth. In the midst of your family gatherings, remember “Jesus, only Jesus.”

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-10 ESV) As you go through this Easter weekend worship the Lord. Embrace the season with the Truth. Sing to the Lord and worship with your heart and your mind. Keep your celebration focused on “Jesus, Only Jesus”! Have a blessed Easter!
